Derrick, retired in April of 2015 from his career as a Milwaukee County Deputy Sheriff, Lieutenant after 20 years of service (beginning in 1995). During his career he served as Deputy Sheriff, Sergeant, and Lieutenant., Derrick has spent seventeen of his 20-year career as either a part-time or full-time trainer. Training thousands of officers from various agencies. He is a Defensive tactics instructor for law enforcement and Corrections, Firearms Instructor, Professional Communication Skills, Ethics, Tactical Response and Vehicle Contact instructor. Derrick was the lead instructor for the Training Academy his last seven years. Derrick Spent 12 of his 20-year career as a SWAT officer.
Derrick is currently Master Instructor in Defense And Arrest Tactics, and Principles of Subject Control for the State of Wisconsin. Derrick sits on the Principle of Subject Control advisory committee for the Law Enforcement Standards Board for the state of Wisconsin. Derrick is considered a use of force expert, consulting on various Use of Force issues within his agency and testifying at personnel review board hearings. He is a graduate of the Force Science Institute.
Derrick participates in training outside of his field of expertise. He has coached high school basketball for 35 years and continues to mentor young men through sports. In 2017 he was inducted into the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. In 2018 he was inducted into Brown Deer High School Hall Of Fame as an assistant coach. He has taught CPR classes throughout the community. Derrick is a veteran of the United States Army.
